Obama calls for a ‘Congress that works’
Posted on by admin

President Obama slammed Congress on Wednesday night calling it “the least productive…in modern history.”

Appearing at a fundraiser for Democratic candidates in Houston, the president called for a “Congress that works, not one that marches in lockstep.”

Obama used the ongoing immigration fight as an example, accusing Republicans of being unable to reach a consensus on the issue and get a vote in the House.

“And it’s not because it doesn’t make sense,” he said. “It’s not because there’s some serious dispute or technical difference in terms of policy. It has to do with politics. We’ve got to stop that,” he added.

Obama’s comments come as Republicans fight to win control of both chambers of Congress in the mid-term elections in November. At a string of fundraisers in recent days, the president has attempted to reenergize the Democratic Party, which has suffered on the heels of a tumultuous healthcare rollout.

He spoke to about 60 donors at a Houston trial lawyer’s home for the event, where tickets drew between $16,200 and $64,800 for Democratic candidates.
